Dear Parkinson's

Dear Parkinson’s is a campaign designed to educate people about the symptoms of Parkinson’s such as tremors and freezing. Shown through postcards written by Parkinson’s sufferers and their friends and family, the campaign focuses on real-life scenarios.

Parkinson’s disease is one which is very close to me as my late grandma suffered from the disease and many of the symptoms. As a child, I remember people staring at my grandma wondering why she didn’t smile, split her drink and knocked her peas off the plate. The symptoms of Parkinson’s are often misunderstood and people are accused of being drunk because of their slurring words, which is actually caused by the slowness of moment.

The typeface used across the campaign is based upon cards, my grandma wrote to me when suffering from Parkinson’s as she suffered from many tremors which made her handwriting unique and a realistic depiction of handwriting from someone with Parkinson’s.

I have chosen to use Lino cut these illustrations to show the stories because the harshness of the lines not only show the harshness of the disease but represent tremors in the hand. These images showing the reality of living with Parkinson’s and how everyday activities are effected for people with Parkinson’s and their families.
